Entry 39: Get money, get secrets

Sakura Labyrinth Floor -02: Gold Trash

After entering the new layer, we soon come to a large open space. The path goes to the left, and in front of us —

Rin :: So you did come. You really don’t listen to what people tell you.

Rin…! No, it’s another copy of Rin, right? Still, she was lying in wait like this…!

Rin :: But, I’ll forgive you just this once. Thanks for doing just as I ordered. You just had to do it.

Caster :: Don't be fooled, Master. That smile is the one a woman wears when her schemes are going well. If you want to know how I know, see, I have a mirror, right? I remember seeing it there.

Rin :: Your Servant is an eyesore as always. They're annoying, and I'd like to humiliate them here, but…well, you’re both valued costumers, after all? Maybe that energy will help me out this time. Kishinami? You’ll have to make it through here if you want to get out, but — as you can see, there’s something blocking your way. Will you be able to defeat this guy and make it through, I wonder?

2013-07-17_15-55-08_159

Leo :: Wait. We’ve just parsed your visual data, Hakuno, and that enemy program is a special type. Avoid battle with it at all costs.

Rin :: Oh, was that Leo’s voice just now? So he also got thrown into the old school building. Well, doesn’t really matter. As Leo said, this guy’s quite strong. It might be hard for your Servant to defeat. But I’ll help you out this time. If you help someone, they’ll help you next time, you know. If you make me a show of good faith, I’ll lower this guy’s rate. I’ve prepared a terminal directly connected to my account. If you want to make things easier, then please deposit the specified amount. I call it the Tohsaka Money is Power System!

2013-07-17_16-12-28_945

Umm — what?

Rin :: The Tohsaka Money is Power System!

Caster :: ……

Gawain :: ……

Gatou :: ……

Jinako :: ……

Leo :: Ah, brother, could you make us some tea?  Something tart and hot. I’d like to change the mood.

Rin :: Heeheehee…So amazed you can’t speak, I see. I’ll be going now. It’s up to you now Kishinami — I’ll let you decide whether you want to fight it at full power or raise the money. Heehee, ehehe, ahahaha! See you! Enrich my bank account as much as you can, okay!

— huh!? Crap, I was dumbfounded and just let Rin go…

Caster :: ...I see... I've learned something about her today. She's a fascinating opponent. Alright. If your bank account goes up in flames, I'll be happy to take it over ☆

That’s more development than I would have expected, but I get the theory. Anyway, let’s explore the area ahead…

[We go and check out the MPS machine.]

To lower the enemy’s level, please insert 2000 sakurament (Sm).

Sakurament…? It seems to be the official name of the currency on the far side of the moon. I’ve acquired some of over the course of events, but it seems it’s different from the PPT used in the Holy Grail War.

Sakura :: PPT is a virtual currency used only in the Holy Grail War, so it holds no meaning on the far side of the moon. “Sm” is mana itself…it seems to be a definable resource even in imaginary number space.

Caster :: Sakura... ment? I feel like there's another word with a similar sounding... well, nevermind! Master, even if your wallet is empty, as long as there's love, there's no problem! Our relationship isn't the kind that can be cut with gold.

[Spoiler at the bottom of the entry if you can't figure the other word out.]

It's true. There's no meaning in worrying about things I can't use anymore... But it is a bit scary to have my savings suddenly wiped out. I suppose I should get my act together and start collecting "Sm".

[I open a treasure chest near the MPS. A message comes up saying I have acquired zero SM.]

…there’s nothing inside the treasure chest.

Leo :: She incites us to contribute money, and nearby is an ostentatious, empty treasure chest. Miss Tohsaka is really quite easy to understand. It’s easy to imagine her second SG.

[So, this area is filled with chests containing 0 Sm. You can eventually beat enough enemies to pay the fine, or you can just be overleveled for the area like me and smash the enemy's face in. If you do it the farmy way, you get this:]

Rin :: Yeess. ♥ Just the efforts I’d hoped for, my sweet worker ants!

Jinako :: Ants or whatever, that woman’s head is full of nothing but $.

Leo :: She’s in high spirits. She must be pleased to have extracted such a high fee.

Rin :: Now Kishinami, allow me to introduce you to one of our newer products! The enemy this time will be “tough & powerful!” This one is measured to really take your finances by the root!

[And if you do it MY way, you get this:]

Rin :: ...Well done. I can't believe you really beat that thing with force alone. I underestimated you. But this time I'll make you pay up! Behold my strengthened money system!

Leo :: I wondered this before, but why is this woman using her considerable talent for this?

Gatou :: Umu. She's a real money-grubber. I'd draw a parallel to Datsue-ba.

[I couldn't quite understand what he said last here. Sometimes this guy is worse than Tamamo. Curse Nasu and his old-style poetic proclivities.]

[End differences. She sets up the same enemy and MPS from last time.]

Rin :: Hmph. What’re you making that face for. It hurts to be looked at like that, you know? Lancer likes to be so flashy. She goes on about how she wants to get a bigger bathtub…so I need funds for that. Therefore, I’ll be looking forward to your next contribution~

Caster :: I see, so Rin's contracted with a high-maintenance servant, huh... Rin gets the burden when that lizard-woman wastes money. She's a devil. Ah, but - it's part of the husband's duties to laugh at their wife's mischiefs and forgive. Rin might be an opponent, but I'd like to help out her standing if I can.

I’ve come to understand Rin’s situation a little more. It seems the main cause is Lancer. I can kind of sympathize with, also having a Servant who doesn’t listen to me. Even so, the fact is that further fees are upon us. Around. Around. The sound of the account balance going around and around. To continue to let Rin swindle me, or to prepare to die fighting? The fate of a billing-warrior is truly harsh.

 [If you pay:]

Alright, the enemy seems beatable now. I'll show you the grudges money can bring!

[The enemy's moves are all visible, we oneshot it.]

Rin :: Thanks for your business, and good work!

Sakura :: Rin, that greeting is a little...

Rin :: But the service ends here. Sorry about killing your savings, but I'm putting your search to an end. I won't let you go any farther. Well, as long as this wall is here, you aren't going anywhere anyway.

[If you don't pay:]

Rin :: I, I thought it wasn’t possible, so I came running to see, but you defeated that guy without paying the fee…! Cheat! You’re cheating, aren’t you!?

Jinako :: You say as its maker. You’re the unfair one here.

Leo :: Yes. Though we were surprised as well. I did think you couldn’t defeat that enemy, but…

Julius :: This is what it’s like to see human potential revealed. Her anger at being ripped off by Rin Tohsaka was all it took to overturn the balance…

Rin :: [Angry Kana Ueda noises] Rrrrgh…hmph, fine, whatever. It doesn’t bother me! Your advance ends here anyway. Since this wall is here, you won’t be able to keep going.

…Right. The whole “Tohsaka Money is Power System” thing was just a largely meaningless sub-event. But the shield obstructing our path here is an impregnable wall. Rin’s hidden feelings. We can’t open that door unless we understand them.

Caster :: That shield is a bit of a problem. Well, it is what it is. Rin, one question for future reference. Was all this money management for the sake of your luxury-minded Lancer?

Rin :: Huh? What about Lancer? She doesn’t have anything to do with this, does she? I just like money, you know? It’s just always better to have money than not. Lancer’s lived in luxury since the day she was born, she wouldn’t be able to live without it, but I’m different. I’m not interested in luxury.

Rin answers plainly. Her face is cheerful. …I see. So Rin Tohsaka doesn’t care for luxury, but rather for money itself…!

Rin :: Yes, exactly! I’m not really sure why myself, but seeing a mountain of cast just makes my heart race! Up until now I’d never…well, I’d never tell anyone at all, it’s just too embarrassing ♥ See, I am a member of the resistance, but it would be an exaggeration to say it’s half because of money. The princes of the Middle East give fantastic payments, even high quality gems, and — agh, uh…!? Hey, what, this pain again!?

…! Electric current runs through my left hand. My body becomes light as if urged on. It’s an opening in Rin’s heart…! If I ventured to define it,

> Dead of money
[>] Slave to money
> Queen of money

Yes, well, there are a lot of ways to say it, but frankly, is can be summed up as “Mammonism!”

Rin :: Ah — no, yo can’t…! Ah, uah, ahh —!

[Now we go through the glowing orb grabbing chest piercing sky leaping shield shattering SG capture routine.]

Leo :: That’s it! Fantastic question, Hakuno!

Rin :: What, no way! My protections were breached again!? Kk, this isn’t a game anymore. I’ll kick you around and send you to the torture chamber. Come to me, Lancer! I’ll really let you do it this time!

Caster :: Hurt and confused, the villain raises her hand and calls her trump card! This is a clear "Total Defeat" flag! Master, let's go!

I’m tired from our previous battle with the Money System, but Caster’s encouragement banishes those feelings. The Servant stained with fresh blood, Lancer. The first time, we didn’t stand a chance, but this time, maybe…!

Rin :: …Lancer?

[Phone ringing sound!]

Lancer :: Are you dumb? I’m not coming right now. I told you, I’m off duty when I’m bathing. Skincare is a required subject for an idol. More importantly, there’s not enough blood for this bath. I told you I wouldn’t use the same blood twice, didn’t I? Go out and catch some new livestock. You want to be the queen of the moon, don’t you? Then you should at least be able to do this promptly.

Rin :: ………………well, I guess I’ll let you go this time too.

I just manage to stop myself from thanking her. I think if I thanked her now, Rin would hate me for life.

Leo :: Thank you very much, Miss Tohsaka. Your consideration is a blessing.
Rin :: Ugh, don’t thank me for this! Remember this, Hakunon, Gilgamesh, and you too, Leonard, getting cocky back there! If I catch you guys, what happens to you in the torture room will be so in-credibly awful, even if you cry and beg I won’t forgive you, okay!

Rin’s body is fading out. I don’t think the copies can hold up once their secret is revealed. Since I identified the SG, I’d like to declare this match a draw due to injury, but…

Caster :: WAIT a second! You mentioned the torture chamber, but do you really have those kinds of hobbies??

Right. That inhuman torture chamber. In her right mind, Rin Tohsaka would never approve of that hell. It has to be Lancer’s doing, something Rin had nothing to do with. But —

Rin :: Of course it is. Captured slaves must be imprisoned. Cowardly Masters, elite only by words, lazy slobs who’ve never worked a day. Those who have incredible skills and do nothing with them don’t deserve them. So I’m just forcing them to work. It even comes with all the necessities of life, plus sleep, breaks, and dessert! See, if you don’t give them some moderate accommodations, the quality of their work would drop. Well? It’s a valid use for those with bad debt. They’ve got no right to complain, they should be thanking me.

Jinako :: Scary girl…so young, but she thinks like one of the exploiters!

Leo :: No, that’s not the problem. Hakuno, do you notice something wrong there?

> Rin’s being too lenient
[>] She’s wrong about the details of the torture

Of course. There’s a discrepancy between what Rin’s said and that torture chamber. The torture chamber we saw was a worldly hell. Its prisoners had no freedom, and their blood and magic circuits were being taken from them. But Rin said she was forcing them to work. There’s one reason for the appearance of such a discrepancy. The torture chamber Rin speaks of and the one we saw are different…Or maybe, Rin has never seen the torture chamber…?

Rin :: Huh? Crucifixion? Binding the hands and feet and draining blood? That’s not just a strong metaphor for squeezing cash out of them?

Yes, I nod. I explain to Rin what kind of place the torture chamber we saw was.

Rin :: I need to go check whether you’re lying. …But, it is something Lancer would do. I’ll release those Masters and NPCs. I knew she was the kind of Servant who would do something like that, but I left her to her own devices, so it’s my mistake.

…! So Rin Tohsaka really is Rin Tohsaka. It’s just been her hidden preferences, “Excessive Self-Consciousness” and “Mammonism,” coming to the forefront…!

[Is that code for, “this is just a really flanderized version of Rin”? Because that I could agree with regarding Extra Rin in general.]

Rin :: …hmn. I guess I’m being overestimated as well. From the way you said that, it sounds like you knew me before?

I nod, “of course.” I don’t remember how many rounds I fought through, but I know her advice saved me more times than I could count.

Rin :: You can’t remember how many rounds you fought…? …well, whatever. Anyway, I am most certainly Rin Tohsaka. This personality is all me. So, Kishinami. If you’re going to relax just because we used to be friends, you’re going to die.

The copy of Rin shatters, leaving those cold words behind her. In any case, the shield is down. Darkness is spreading lightly, as if the Labyrinth is summoning me to the next layer…

[Answer from earlier: Sacrament.]

Entry 38: Some people are just classier than others

The door to the janitor’s room is locked tightly…

Caster :: It doesn't look like she wants to come out. According to my texting-friend Osakabehime,

Your room tastes like honey
If you have your net friends
And are offered pizza
You'd lock the door for years.

Caster :: It's that kind of thing.

Of course, there’s only one thing to be done. I pound on the door, and shout. “Jinako Karigiri! I need to talk to you, open the door!”

Jinako :: No way! Are you my mom!? Just leave me alone! And anyway, going outside is stupid. Even if we go back to the Grail War, we’ll just have to kill each other, y’know? Why would we wanna go back? And this place is the best. I dunno who’s paying the electricity bills and stuff, but the internet connection is super fast, and it’s way over the tera-HD limits. I can enjoy all the comforts of the Earth, and I don’t need to take protein. You’re all crazy, wanting to leave a paradise like this. Occult or something. How about I just stay here and enjoy my relaxation-victory, and all of you can just go to your…Sakuran palace? Something like that? You can go there and kill each other as much as you want!

[Jinako's speech is super slangy, and she sounds like she spends too much time on YouTube or something. She also uses a decent amount of English loanwords.]

…It’s no good, we won’t be able to discuss this. Jinako just doesn’t want to listen to me. Since she’s been listening in on our conversations in the student council room, she should know what’s going on. And moreover, she’s declared that this has nothing to do with her, so to half-hearted persuasion won’t even get me inside — Caster…?

Caster :: Alright, I can't take this anymore! That useless woman! She's too similar to how I used to be, and I don't want to remember that!

…it broke. No, he destroyed it. With one blow from an indignant Caster, the several-fold lock has been completely destroyed.

Caster :: Hands up, this is a raid! Let the sun expose your mail-order-softened lifestyle!

Jinako :: Uwaaaah —!? Hey, how’re you coming in here!? Have you no human heart!? You don’t, do you!?

Caster :: Hurry up, ab-meat! [in English] Face the world outside! If you don't, I'll bring the power of the sun and the north winds to bear on that flab! If you don't want to be roasted into teriyaki, get up!

We break into the room, and Caster reaches out a hand toward Jinako Karigiri, who is wrapped, or rather sprawled out in her futon. And just before —

Caster :: Hmm? Is that the sun? Am I about to become teriyaki?

[Flash of light, person appears!]

2013-07-16_21-37-15_9

Unnamed man :: Your complaints are natural. However, I must uphold my contract. I can’t turn a blind eye to any further violence. Withdraw your hand, Caster. She is just the sort of being she appears to be, but Jinako is my master. If you lay hand on her, I will have to join battle as well.

Caster :: —. [surprised Chiwa Saitou noises]

Caster stands still. She wasn’t shocked by the flash of light just now. She’s genuinely amazed by the power of the Servant before us. A lean figure in black and gold. Calm eyes, but with a glint piercing as a spear. White hair that lies as it pleases. The hard set of his lips expresses a taciturn disposition. This is Jinako’s Servant…As a Master, even a inexperienced one, I can tell in one glance. This Servant is a heroic spirit on the same level as Leo’s Gawain, possibly even higher!

Jinako :: Oh, you came out. What d’you mean, “Jinako is my master.” You can’t even go shopping or guard duty, you can’t be called an adult in anything but the Servant screen.

2013-07-16_22-17-04_798

Unnamed man :: …it’s true. My Provocation skill is no match for your superior trolling skills. But that is self-evident. To reach that level, you would have to waste the better part of your life in the process. I, who lived by the arts of war, am very far from your skills. That kind of thing is simply bizarre to me. …this is actually an important matter. I can’t understand what the use of it is, but to have such enthusiasm for the evaluation of others…It is an asceticism I cannot emulate. My master, Jinako Karigiri. For what purpose do you live?

Jinako :: …see, that’s what I'm talking about. You…Karna, you really haven’t ever grown up, you know.

Karna — is that this Servant’s true name? Which means Jinako just went and said his true name? Which means —

Jinako :: Yep. I’ve got no interest in the Holy Grail War, and less interest in going outside. So this guy’s completely useless. Can’t clean, can’t make a joke, he sucks at games, and all he does when he opens his mouth is criticize me. A complete miss, completely unsuitable as a Servant for an elite gamer like me, that’s Karna. There’s no way I’d fight together with this guy. Ahh…I really wanted a shota Servant, too…a pretty, innocent boy like that pervy woman’s Andersen-tan would’ve been scrumptious…ah, no, I haven’t talked to him made recordings or anything, but I’m sure he sounds and acts just like angel. The great Jinako has an eye for these things.

[“Shota” is the male equivalent term to “loli,” for anyone unaware. Also, she said "elite gamer" in English.]

Karna guards Jinako wordlessly. Caster hasn’t spoken a word, just keeping her gaze fixed on Karna. Karna shows no hostility, but definitely no gaps in his defense either. That quiet fighting spirit clearly surpasses Caster. …if it came to a fight with this Servant, there’s no question which way things would go. Ironically, Karna’s Master Jinako is the only one unaware of this power difference.

Karna :: …I’m sorry. You all are right this time. Jinako’s points are little but childish selfishness.

Jinako :: I’m not a kid! I’m a full — a full-grown young adult!

Karna :: However, I’d like you to understand that snails have their own snail pride. Could you accept that for now and withdraw?

Karna’s quiet, overpowering…or no, sincere appeal. It seems like if we were able to compel Jinako to do it, Karna would come fight to us, but I think Jinako wouldn’t help fight even if we dragged her into the Sakura Labyrinth. As Karna said, there’s nothing we can do now but withdraw.

Karna :: Thank you. We may not be able to cooperate, but as you can see, Jinako is a bit of a loner. Please come by and see if you can teach her something from time to time.

Jinako :: Hey, I'm not lonely! What are you, my dad?

Karna :: Sorry, but in terms of ages, that's just not possible. Think of me like a younger brother.

Jinako :: Gah! That's where you should say older brother....

…a strange pair. Even though their speech and personalities don’t mesh at all, and Jinako seriously doesn’t like Karna, the mood isn’t dangerous. Maybe it’s because Karna respects Jinako. So it just becomes Jinako having a fight by herself.

Jinako :: *pant, pant*…oh fine, I guess we can cooperate a little? I’ll participate in the student council meetings from my monitor from now on, so hurry up and get out! I’m going to sleep! Wake me if anything interesting happens!

We’re locked out of the janitor’s room and leave it behind us. …it’s went about half how I expected, there wasn’t anything else to be done. I’m still uneasy about it, but Caster and I need to go explore the Sakura Labyrinth by ourselves.

Entry 37: A largely routine meeting

It’s been a night since I found my first SG. I’m not suffering any side effects from the Five Thought-Stopping Meditations, and my body is in good condition. So I head for the student council room. We need to talk about what to do next…

[And thence we go.]

Leo :: Good morning. Not that we’re all present, let’s discussing our plans going forward. First, about Miss Tohsaka. She referred to herself as an “ego.” According to Sakura, that was a copy, emitted from the real Miss Tohsaka – a kind of virtual apparition.

Julius :: A virtual apparition…a kind of familiar used by wizards, a goblin. Usually it would be nothing but an enemy program implementing the caster’s desires, but as this is a directly copied offshoot of the original person’s character, no amount of capacity will be enough.

Sakura :: On Earth that would be true. I think Miss Rin is controlling her branch-selves using the Moon Cell’s processing power.

Leo :: I see. So she wasn’t just putting on airs by calling herself the queen of the moon. That copy had A rank abilities as a Master. Given that that was one quarter, we could be about to calculate how powerful the real thing is. …this is more of a problem than I expected. It might be a short cut to capture the copies one by one. Next, about the Sakura Labyrinth. We’ve confirmed the presence of a new layer past the shield. We think that the lower layers will eventually reach the near side. This is because —

Julius :: Because Rin Tohsaka was guarding it. She told us she wouldn’t let us leave the far side of the moon. Therefore, there is one reason she blocked our path. Because the Labyrinth is a way out.

Leo :: Right. That’s the logical conclusion. …well, why has Miss Tohsaka committed such crimes? Did she have enough power to trap us on the far side of the moon and make that strange Lancer her Servant? This conclusion is as yet uncertain…but it’s clear that she is different from the Rin Tohsaka we all know.

I nod, agreeing with him. …I remember the terrible things I saw in the castle’s torture chamber. I don’t think Rin would do something like that. And if she did, there must be some kind of reason.

Gawain :: Is that so? Lady Rin was our greatest enemy in the Holy Grail War. These present crimes may also be a tactic to overthrow Leo. She was a pragmatist. Would she not be prepared to steal magic from other Masters to make herself stronger?

…unfortunately, we can’t disprove that. Rin Tohsaka may have been a likable person, but she was at the same a cool-headed wizard. Honestly if she thought she could bring down Leo by throwing away all her pride, then maybe —

[>] …no, Rin wouldn’t do that.
> …just maybe…

No, Gawain’s opinion is just speculation. The Rin I know would never do that.

Leo :: I feel the same way. I can affirm that Miss Tohsaka would never do such things.

Sakura :: Why is that? I would think the two possibilities to be about even…

Leo :: It’s simple. In a certain sense, I trust Miss Tohsaka more than anyone else. She has lost her true self. I want to return it to her by any means possible. That the student council’s current policy. Are there any objections?

Leo…! A warm feeling wells up inside of me, hearing Leo trusts Rin, his rival in the Grail War, so much…!

Leo :: Then, our next operation will be to contact Miss Tohsaka and learn from her behavior what has happened. However…we are still not able to over come the difference in power between Lancer and Hakuno’s Servant. I am the president, but I cannot easily leave the student council room. Therefore, for now we’ll make it our policy to retreat if necessary and continue to build your experience in the Sakura Labyrinth.

Julius :: …Indeed. If only we had at least one more Servant able to go out and fight.

[…Assassin… :(]

Forget about the “president can’t leave the student council room” thing, we can’t do this if Leo isn’t providing backup. It’s true that it would be nice to have one more Master with a contracted Servant, but…

Sakura :: Huh? But Miss Jinako in the the janitor’s room has a Servant?

Julius :: What!?

Gawain :: What!?

Jinako :: *choking sound*…! Ah-ah-ah, didn’t expect that, you made me get soda on the futon…! Anyway, Sakura, what’re you saying!? Tattling on people’s equipment is a violation of privacy, y’know!

[…I assume she’s talking to us over her computer network somehow.]

Leo :: Oh my. But eavesdropping isn’t a violation of privacy? Well, I thought it was harmless so I let it be, but the situation has changed. Hakuno, to the janitor’s room. I cannot let valuable fighting forces go to waste. Please bring Jinako here.

Jinako :: Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah…!

…Well that was an unexpected turn of events. I don’t think it’ll be easy to persuade Jinako, but I’ll head for the janitor’s room anyway.

Entry 36: On marriage and gardening

[After ending the day, I'm given the option to view the new SG. It looks like this:]

I leave the Sakura Labyrinth and head back to my private room. Exposing Rin’s hidden SG. Rin disappearing like an illusion we had dispelled. …exploring the Labyrinth took a surprising amount of physical energy. Sleepiness steals over me immediately as soon as I rest my body. Caster lets out a heavy sigh, as if trying to expel her exhaustion from her body - or is she perhaps feeling down?

Caster :: I'm really sorry, Master... That was my failure. I got too optimistic, even knowing how weakened I am. Aah, who does that lizard-woman think she is, to make me disgrace myself in front of my Master! My tails feel like they're about to multiply out of sheer frustration!

To be frank, she's not the only one who's frustrated. We didn't lose because of Caster - it was because I was useless when it comes to both my roles as backup and command. I admonish myself. Before I get back my memories, I'll need to retrain my body. Actually, Rin said something interesting. “Hakuno Kishinami is the type who’ll turn the tables on you eventually if you just let her go.” I think she’s overestimating me, but in order to live up to those words, I'll do my best to gain experience with Caster.

Caster :: Experience? Experience with Master, you say?? Just a moment, I'll show you my Tamamo-style Futon Making Technique!

.............
 I quietly stand up and head towards the door. I'll sleep in the Student Council room tonight.

Caster :: Oh, that's not what you meant? Ah, experience in the academic sense. Alriiiight, I get it. Darn.

Caster :: But seriously, I'm happy. To gain experience together means that even when we're hurt or in a bad spot, we're fighting together, right? That - is what I call husband-and-wife teamwork! Spin it any way you like, that's my definition of happiness! Wait - does this mean we get to do the whole "newlywed experience" over again? Have I perhaps won the metaphorical lottery?

...
As usual, I can't really understand what Caster's talking about, but I am definitely still unmarried. Is she perhaps trying to scam me again? In any case - what a relief. Caster seems to be back to herself again. My memories are still fuzzy, but it hurts my heart to see Caster feeling down. I certainly need to regain my ability as a master, but it seems that my memories are still a priority. It would make things a lot less complicated if the "secrets of my heart" had been sealed into SGs like Rin's, though.

Caster :: Ah, um... I don't think you have any SGs, or rather, I don't think you'd be able to hide anything successfully?

I'm not hiding anything, huh. I suppose that's obvious if you consider the state I'm in - even if I did have secrets, I've forgotten all about them. So, if that's true, does that mean Caster's the same way?

Caster :: Eh? "Caster must not have anything to hide, right?" - did I hear you right? O-o-of course! I, Caster, have absolutely nothing to hide, and sincerely present myself for you to use as you please! Hoho, ho, ho... Gah, I can't do it! Please don't look at me with eyes that pure! Hmmph. I do. I've got them. I'm a god, you know.

Caster :: I've got one or two, or a few thousand. Enough to pawn off to the masses. But I'm not so easy to pry open! I've still got my pride as a woman. And unless you exert enough Hunk Power to separate me from them, I'm never telling! Do you wish to challenge my secrets? If so, I say best be prepared!

[Caster's got a stated preference for "Ikemen Tamashii", or handsome/hunk souls. It's a gender-neutral term in Japanese, but I can't think of a good replacement here. Generally I'd just use handsome, that's probably closer, but Handsome Power sounds weird. Anyway, Hakunons of the world, forgive me.]

So Caster has SGs too... Or I suppose "had" would be a better word. I wonder how well I must have known her before. It seems I'll have to reveal them once again...

Once again, thank you WADA.

[The game tells me I'll need to deepen my relationship with my servant in order to unlock their SGs. But for now, it limits me to the base screen.]

Entry 35.1: I remember the important things.

[Once in My Room, Caster has something to talk about before we call it a day.]

Caster :: We've really gone and got ourselves involved in something strange. Even Kaguya would be surprised to see this far side of the moon. There aren't even any rabbits. Ah - but if we think about it as a honeymoon we slipped into the Holy Grail War somehow, it's kinda nice, no? A master suffering from memory loss. A wife considerately restraining herself - but dare I imagine a development in this story? I say go wild, author ☆! I'm ready whenever, so feel free to change into a beast at any time, Master ❤

[She's referencing the tale of Kaguya-hime in Japansese folklore in the first part.]

I'm not sure what kind of standard plot developments she's expecting. But - I'm certainly not going on a honeymoon before getting married. I might not remember much, but I'd certainly remember that.

Caster :: Ah - such a calm rejection! You really are outstanding at rebuking my advances. It hurts - it hurts! Tamamo's going to cry! Sob.

Caster :: But. Let's set jokes aside for a moment. Wherever we happen to be, I will still be your Servant. At the very least, please have faith in that. It is the "beautiful and intelligent; perfect in all endeavors ☆" me after all. I'll be sure to quickly return you to the other side of the moon. Then we can go ahead and conquer the Holy Grail War together. I called it a honeymoon, but it's more like a fresh start together. I'll be sure to render the best possible service in this new campaign, so feel free to fall for me anytime ❤

 [I'm never quite sure if she's making a pun or not, but it's worth noting that the word she used for "conquer" is almost exactly the same as the word for "holy grail".]

Entry 35 Extra: Menu tourism

[So, the events of this day have caused some significant expansion in the menus here.]

2013-07-15_09-31-22_300

[There’s now an SG counter on screen at all times, in place of the “information matrix” counter that was there in Fate/Extra. Each round in Extra you had to collect all the pieces of the information matrix on your opponent’s Servant, in order to reveal their battle actions to you when you had your fight against them. I’m not sure if SGs will do that as well as block dungeon progression.]

2013-07-15_09-10-34_616

[The “SG” option that has been on the main menu this whole time is open now, too.]

2013-07-14_21-36-48_984

[Pretty menus!]

2013-07-14_21-37-38_201

[And here we have Rin’s Secret Garden page. The two options are “Profile,” and “Excessive Self-Consciousness,” which is apparently the name of the piece of Rin’s SG we’ve unlocked – it’s also listed as the 1/3 on the main menu as seen above. Selecting “Excessive Self-Consciousness” leads to a whole lot of text basically explaining the concept of tsundere. …I will not translate it for now, though it may be worthwhile eventually.]

2013-07-15_09-12-50_859

[The “Profile” screen looks like this. In a nice touch, selecting any of the answered fields gets you a voice clip of Rin giving her answer and a comment on said answer. Currently the only information filled in is name, height, birthday, and “how do you spend your free time?” (Answer: “I aim for physical and mental relaxation.”) I’ll probably try to translate her comments when the profile is filled in. The two other questions in Japanese are “what do you look for in a partner?” and “what’s your favorite color of underwear?”]

2013-07-15_09-35-09_553

[Now, the information matrix from Extra is still in the game, it’s just only accessible when you’re in your private room, so I assume its importance has been decreased. It has space for eight Servants, including Lancer, Andersen, and Gilgamesh.]

2013-07-15_09-38-38_38

[We currently don’t have a lot of info on any of these Servants, especially Gil (there is nothing on him but his name, Master, and lack of Class). On Andersen we have the keyword “three great authors,” while on Lancer we just found the keyword “Dragon-child” and the skill “Territory Creation B.” Skills and keywords, like that SG piece, lead to blocks of explanatory text, though not as large as the two “setting” entries which are basically “here is our history of this Servant,” when you unlock them. I’ll translate Lancer’s for now.]

Dragon-child: This Servant has taken the form of a demon due to the skill “Innocent Monster.” They make her look like a devil, but her horns and tail are those of a dragon. Also her high canines appear to be the fangs of a dragon, not a vampire. “Innocent Monster” is a skill that transforms past and present, giving her a distorted appearance and abilities, in accordance with the image born of her actions in life. Vlad III, who also possesses this skill, was branded a monster by the work of a novelist, but Lancer is treated this way because of her actions in life.

Territory Creation B: Creates a prison and confines girls inside it. According to legend, the master of this castle would capture five maidens a day, execute three of them to bath in their blood, and keep one as pet to be tortured to death. The last girl was granted the right to take a challenge for fates such as “be killed right here,” “plot escape but be betrayed by your allies and killed,” “be captured by the palace guards and killed,” “fall from the castle and die accidentally,” and “…barely escape with your life, and prosecute this monster.” Incidentally, the chance of receiving the fate “you can escape” is 1/1000.

Entry 35: That’s not a real secret

Rin :: Argh, that was so stupid. And Kishinami of all people saw that disgraceful…!

It’s…Rin? She’s looking at the sunset, agonizing over something. I cautiously take another step forward, and Rin notices our presence and turns around.

Rin :: Kishinami!? W-why are you here…When did you break in! There’s been absolutely no negligence or openings left on this side, after all. I’m going to kick you out of the Labyrinth right now —!

Sakura :: ! Be careful Miss Kishinami! She’s calling out her Servan…huh?

[What Rin calls out is in fact one of the standard enemy programs.]

Rin :: W, what! Why are you just standing there looking let down…I’m the queen of the moon. I don’t need to fight insects like you directly! So, you see, it’s…there’s no way I’m going easy on you, okay!!

[She vanishes.]

Caster :: Ah, she ran away. But this enemy looks like kind of a pain! Master, please be careful!

[We fight it. Caster ruins her warning by complaining about having to fight something so weak in her battle opening line. I did oneshot it with my overleveled-ness though, so probably justified.]

Leo :: Good work. It seems you’ve gotten quite used to battle. That behavior of Miss Tohsaka’s — I think we’ve already got her secret.

Julius :: Still, though…isn’t that far too easy to figure out? It’s so conspicuous you can hardly call it a secret.

Leo :: Maybe secrets are actually more that sort of thing than you’d think? I mean, it’s true that we don’t have conclusive evidence. Sakura, where is Miss Tohsaka’s signal coming from now?

Sakura :: Miss Rin’s signal ceases in the vicinity of the shield. From that point on, she became impossible to track.

Leo :: Then for now let’s go back to the shield and aim for a reunion with Miss Tohsaka. Maybe we’ll be able to expose another of her secrets. It’s possible Miss Tohsaka has might up with Lancer without us noticing. Hopefully we can catch up with her before that happens…

[So we head off that way. As we near the destination, Caster exasperatedly tells me to get ready to face 'that horned woman'.]

Unknown speaker :: Kyaaaaa—!

!? That scream came from the end of the path!

2013-07-14_14-44-27_274

Unnamed girl :: No, nooo! Please, help! I can’t run anymore! Don’t stab me with that…!

Lancer :: Anymore? Anymore, is it? Only humans get second chances. You know what, pathetic little rabbit? I’ll teach you some words I really hate, just for you. Jailbreaks, mutiny, and backtalk. All a rabbit should do is sit there like cute little bunny, you know!

Unnamed girl :: I…noo, stop! I’ll disappear, I’ll really disappear this time…!

Lancer :: What’s that? Oh, there’s no way I’ll let you go out so half-heartedly. I don’t let my sacrifices go so easily. You’re livestock. Your fate is to be tormented in my blood-tax hell until I get bored of you. Now, if we’re understood, you’ll get right back in your pen.

…with a high-pitched laugh, the screaming stops. The scent of fresh blood, at odds with this virtual reality. We rush toward the source of the sounds, and I see that red Lancer before us. I don’t see the owner of those screams. Did Lancer transfer her somewhere else…?

Leo :: Oh? Lancer, riding alone? Where’s Miss Tohsaka?

Sakura :: No sign of a Master! This is your chance, Miss Kishinami!

Lancer :: What could this be? I came out to catch an escapee, and I find unexpected guests? I’m so lucky, so cool!

Caster :: This is terrible luck on our side. We managed to get one out of Rin, and she seemed like she was about to lose another - of her marbles, that is.

I endorse Caster’s position. I expected Rin’s team to be looking for ideal circumstances for our next in encounter as well, but this is kind of anti-climactic.

Lancer :: What? You over there, refrain from whispering. You’re so rude. Where do you think you are?

Lancer points at us. It seems like she was asking me, not Caster.

Lancer :: …come on. You, the plain one, why are you staying quiet. I’m asking you a question. Answer me! …I said, answer me. Don’t ignore me! What is it, you have some problem with me!? Argh, the pet’s poor behavior is the master’s responsibility, you know!? Answer me already! You, completely harmless-looking squirrel Master! Where, what kind of place do you think this castle is!?

> This is the arena…the Sakura Labyrinth.
[>] The scene of a murder…?
> You told me to refrain from whispering, so…

Lancer ::Haah? Are you dumber than a squirrel? I'm the only human here. How could there be a murder? What I just ripped into shreds was a cute little rabbit. It's unbelievable for something that only exists to be eaten to run from me. So I punished it.

 ...What should I do here? This is a type of Servant I've never seen before. I'm not sure whether we should be trying to fight or standing back. This mission was to observe Tohsaka Rin. There's no point trying to fight when she's not here. But--

Lancer :: Enough of this. Rin told me not to kill “Hakunon” without her permission, but this is getting annoying. And what’s that “Hakunon” supposed to mean anyway? What language is it? Is it the name of a food? A place? A magic word? A pet name? Argh, Rin, if you’re going to use words I can’t understand, you’re not allowed to be my attendant anymore! I feel sick, so I’m going to cut you two into eight pieces!

What a hot-tempered person…! This Servant gets angry whether you speak to her or not, she’s basically a time bomb…!

Caster :: Master, stay strong! If we lose on the battlefield of words, we can't even begin the real fight! If it smells, cover it. If it causes pain, set it alight. Things should be decided in that manner - simply!

Lancer :: Oh, well said, you’re not my type, but you’ve peaked my interest, low-grade Servant! I’m play with you gently, then kill you. Come on, I’ll retire you in a second, third-rate!

[We fight for a round! It's funny, I actually have more HP than her this time around.]

Lancer :: Ahahahaha! Oh my god, you’re so weak! Is the Caster class really that lame!?

Caster :: Wha- this is Idiot Power on a never-before-seen scale! And- damn it, that spear's blunt! Even I'm surprised!

Lancer’s attack power surpasses ours. And she’s this powerful with her Master absent. If Rin were here, we wouldn’t even be able to survive…!

Lancer :: Ahh, I can’t stop…such a lovely face you’re looking up at me with, human. It seems you’ve come to have more respect for my noble lineage.

Caster :: ...What? Noble? Where? Wait - you? Dejima?

[Dejima seems to be a *tiny* trading port in Nagasaki.]

Lancer :: Yes, precisely! You’re a third-rate in battle, but you’re so on cue with your responses, you’re first-rate as an audience.

Lancer:: Are you curious?

Lancer :: You’re curious, aren’t you?

Lancer :: You want to know, right!? Good call! Very well, if you want to know so badly, I’ll tell you! I am a high-class Dragon-child! Super-sonic, gifted with beauty and intelligence, my spirit and my favorite tea are both first brew — the roaring thunder descending from Jánoshegy, singing songs of fresh blood! I am Hungary’s famous E—

[She says "Nice call" in English.]

Rin :: Stupid stupid stupid, stop right there Lancer! What are you thinking, revealing your true name!? You know how angry I’ll be if you do that!?

…Rin! With this our opponents’ battle power has gotten even higher. Currently Caster and I can’t even oppose Lancer alone, if her Master Rin is with her, forget winning, I’d despair even of getting away…!

Lancer :: …so, I can’t, my true name is secret information, right. When I made a contract with my manager, I was told not to give my own name.

Rin :: Not just your true, all of your abilities are secrets! You didn’t go an blab anything else important, did you!?

Lancer :: Huh, other things? Um….....................yep. I didn’t blab anything at all, no ma’am. It was perfect. Perfect silence! It was at the point where I didn’t even talk to them at all.

["Perfect silence" was also in English.]

Caster :: "Daughter of dragons." Annnnd, a slippery reptile tail. Mmmmm, I suppose there are some lizard women that come into the world as apparitions and spirits and such.

[Lancer and Caster really are similar - they both use a ton of English. Among other more noticeable similarities.]

Rin :: You went and revealed something didn’t you!

Lancer :: You’re wrong, it’s not my fault. It’s just that squirrely Master’s leading questions approach master-level.

Rin :: There’s no way Hakunon….Kishinami has the kind of ability! She’s a good person to the core and her idiocy is bottomless!

Lancer :: Oh my. Well then, I don’t see the problem. If she’s that dumb, we don’t need to be afraid of her knowing one or two secrets, do we? And anyway, look at them, Rin. They’re not strong at all, are they? I just danced with them a little, and they’re in that state. Couldn’t I just kill them here? I’d like more sacrifices, but disobedient lambs are just in the way. We get rid of everyone who tries to leave the far side of moon. That’s our rule, isn’t it Rin?

Rin :: ——.

The agitated atmosphere completely changes. Rin Tohsaka wordlessly accepts Lancer’s suggestion —

Lancer :: Come on. Your orders, my queen. First we crush the Servant and put him in the torture chamber. Then we pluck off the Master’s limbs and leave them at the entrance to the Labyrinth. And then, when the other survivors in the school building come to save her, we can catch and kill them all one by one! Oh, how lovely! My headache goes away just imagining it! This is, what do they call it, neglect play, isn’t it!

So that’s what that Servant is thinking of…! Daring to leave her defeated opponents alive, as bait to lure in the next victim —

Rin ::  — That’s true. You could do that. This girl is the type who’ll turn the tables on you eventually if you just let her go. And I wouldn’t mind making her kneel at my feet like the other Masters we’ve caught.

Rin, that’s…! …I can’t believe it. I don’t know what happened to make her become a queen. But still, even though she’s my enemy now, I believed that her true character hadn’t changed, and yet —!

Lancer :: Leave it to me! Now then, starting from your weak little Servant, I’ll make some mince pie with this spear —

Rin :: But that would be boring. It’s not worth fighting an opponent this drastically down-leveled. A Tohsaka is always noble and elegant. It went out of use long ago, but it’s a family precept. Go home, Lancer. There’s no need to fight small fry like this.

Lancer :: Seriously? …well, I guess it is your castle. If that’s how it’s going to be, I’ll go have a look.

Lancer leaves immediately following Rin’s order. Most like she transferred to their headquarters. …and there’s no mistaking it, Rin just indirectly saved us. Somehow, that speculation freed me from the corner I was trapped in.

Rin :: Hm, hmph. What’re you looking at me like that for. What? I just said I’m not interested in bullying the weak. It’s not like I was concerned for you or anything. If you haven’t learned your lesson and creep in here again, then I really will exploit you for all you’re worth.

So Rin declares coldly, turning her face from me. As she does so, a strong electric current runs through my left hand. My left hand lefts on its own, as if drawn to Rin’s heart —

Rin :: W-what is it, why do you look so sad all of a sudden. S-so, stop it! I told you I’m the queen, didn’t I!? So, call me queen! Understand? This is just the nature pity of a queen! It would be boring to just finish you off, so I’ve made an exception and overlooked this! Don’t you DARE misunderstand! I don’t think anything of you!

Caster :: Uwaaah, there it is.... As expected of Rin...

Leo :: This is —

Julius :: …there it is.

[Flower petal burst, like when Kiara kissed Hakuno before.]

Gawain :: ?? What is it? Wasn’t it just a normal declaration based on a chivalrous spirit?

My left hand throbs. The program Kiara transferred to me is rumbling. My eyes can see something taking root in the blood vessels in the center of Rin’s chest. Ahh — then, this is,

Rin :: Eh? What’s going on? I’m the one letting you go, why are you looking at me like you’re pitying me?

[Then the center of her chest totally starts shining.]

2013-07-14_19-11-53_182

Rin :: O, ow!? Wha, what is this!? Suddenly, my chest, hurts —
+
Sakura :: SG, identified! That is the “secret” that will bring down Miss Rin’s shield!

[So a glowing pink orb burst out of Rin’s chest.]

That’s right…! The moment I reach that conclusion,both of my feet kick off the ground. I shoot throw the air like an arrow. As if my body doesn’t belong to me.

[Now please imagine Hakuno leaping into the air, and driving her hand into Rin’s chest in a burst of light and flower petals. It's majestic.]

Right, I haven’t been fired at Rin, rather, drawn toward her. As if following some innate understanding, my left hand merges into Rin’s defenseless chest —

[The screen goes white, declares “Secret Garden 1,” and Hakuno falls past Rin, and crushes the pink orb in her hand.]

An instant.

The preference concealed inside Rin’s chest runs through my mind like a flash of light.

[And the shield shatters like glass.]

Rin :: Ugh…w-what, that —

Rin’s body is vanishing. No way…did I just do lethal damage to her with that contact!? But she doesn’t seem to have any wounds or bleeding —

Rin :: Kk…I can’t, maintain this offshoot…the ego should be invincible, yet you have a secret measure to eliminate it…I should have expected it…I underestimated you, Kishinami. You really are the greatest obstacle in my path to becoming queen…!

Er…no, um. I’d prefer not to be looked at with such open resentment. And I’d like you to not overestimate me.

Rin :: But, the fight is still to come! This me is no more than one quarter. This much doesn’t even hurt.

No more than one quarter…? What the heck is Rin talking about…!?

Sakura :: A quarter…? ! Could it be that the signs of life I’ve been picking up since we entered the Labyrinth are — It is! Those signs of life originate from the Labyrinth itself, but they ID as Miss Rin! If we count back from their numerical values, that Rin is one piece of consciousness emitted from her main body! She is a quarter of the Labyrinth, capacity-wise!

Leo :: Miss Tohsaka’s life signal, from the Labyrinth…? No, isn’t it possible that spirits were originally discharged, and then began to live independently?

Rin :: Heh, it would be impossible for the likes of you, but I know the secrets of the Moon Cell, so I can do it. Anyway. I don’t really know how I lost to you, but I’ll take the loss for now. But, I’ll tell you this much before I go. I’m going to disappear here for my own reasons! It’s absolutely not because of you!

[So she vanishes in a burst of tsundere.]

Sakura :: …umm. Anyway, the signal from the present version of Miss Rin has more or less vanished. The life signs from the Labyrinth are the same as ever, so I don’t think her life has been seriously endangered. Also, the data obtained by Miss Kishinami confirms Miss Rin’s hidden feelings. SG01, that’s the name of this preference, is…

Leo :: Wait. Let’s keep it with only Hakuno knowing that. For the sake of Miss Tohsaka’s honor. Well, we know what this one is even if you don’t tell us. It was so utterly according to template, I’d like to put it in a textbook.

Julius :: …extremely so. To even make the listeners flush…It was on the level of some traditional performance art.

Gawain :: To my regret…I can’t seem to understand your modern culture even slightly.

Leo :: That’s just fine Gawain. Anyway, Sakura. What does “SG” stand for?

Sakura :: It’s short for Secret Garden. That’s the name that has been registered in the Moon Cell’s libraries, but from now on I’ll shorten it to SG. Also, I’ve detected a comparatively stable structure just past the shield. I should be able to establish a short cut from the cherry tree to there allowing direct movement to that point.

Leo :: Very good. That should make further exploration easier. Hakuno, head for the area past the shield. After that, return to base. As we’re deciding on our policy going forward, relax for a while, and when you’re rested, let’s convene in the student council room.

Entry 34: A secret room

2013-07-13_19-05-22_684

[So we head into the Labyrinth again. (The menu there marks Rin as this floor’s “Sentinel.”) Caster and I fight some things, then head for the part of the path we couldn’t get to last time before Rin stopped us.]

Caster :: Mu, this feeling of something having been spilled... Master, I sense a harsh presence ahead!

2013-07-13_19-17-34_754

Leo :: Sakura, scan that building. Can you tell its status?

Sakura :: No, I…My scanning won’t go through that building. Its construction is different from the others, as if it was added on later.

That’s suspicious indeed. So this means that’s Rin and Lancer’s secret room? If we want to bring down the shield, we’ll need Rin’s “secrets” — that’s what Kiara said. It would be nice if there were some kind of hint in that building, but…

Leo :: Indeed, we need any information we can get at present. Please keep exploring, Hakuno. But be careful. We don’t know when Miss Tohsaka and Lancer might appear to oppose you.

[So we go up to the building and enter through the gate in the front.]

The moment I enter the room, fear runs up my spine. There’s red splattered all over the room. Red spilling from crucified bodies. Red pooling on the floor, spreading little by little. All of it red. All of it anguish. All of it — a prison of blood that shouldn’t exist in this world. On the opposite wall are human shapes, sewn in place like insects pinned down as specimens. Blood flows obediently from the wounds gauged into their flanks, shoulders, and arms.

Sakura :: That’s horrible…

Leo :: Hakuno, can you break down those walls? Ah, of course you can’t. Only the arena’s root user would have clearance to do that. They look human, but…Sakura, what are they? NPCs or Masters?

Sakura :: …Both. They’re all virtual bodies, captured from the near side, same as the rest of us, anyway. I would guess that they’re people who couldn’t make it to the old school building, and were imprisoned in the Labyrinth.

That’s…so, if we’d taken one wrong step, we could have ended up like them ourselves…?

Unknown speaker :: Ugh…ah…Tired…Heavy…Is there…someone there…?

They’re awake! Those people with the blood wrung out of them are alive!

Caster :: ...It's true that being alive means that there's still a chance of being able to save them. But, this might be...

Caster gazes at the blood-stained torture chamber with a dark expression. But, they’re still alive. We may not be able to save them now, but if we go and look for some way —

Unknown speaker :: Ugh…ah…ah…give it…give it, back…this is, enough, for a lifetime, so…Come on, give it back…Give it back…give it…give it…give it, give it, give it, give it! Give me, give me back my talent…!

Leo :: So that’s what it is. They’re draining blood…data, from the NPCs, up until they can reconstruct themselves. From the Masters they’re pulling out their magic circuits. That’s their talent, their innate potential as a wizard.

Julius :: …it’s the opposite of “designer babies.” This is a room for physically transforming geniuses into ordinary people. I’ve fought with a Servant that possessed a similar skill before. With the Territory Creation skill and A rank skills in torture…A Servant specializing in murder, not battle. Kishinami, lingering is useless. No matter what you do, you won’t be able to save the captured Masters. Hurry forward before you’re poisoned.

Julius’s instructions cold, but his voice isn’t cruel. It might be my imagination, but he acts as if he’s really concerned for me. Still…On the other side of those windows, Masters whose names I don’t know are crying. The young man who used to be a Master continues to cry out as his whole body is skewered by some lance-shaped thing. The mark of a wizard. The power to freely come and go in the virtual world. He cries for that privilege back, as if it were the foundation of his existence.

…my cognizance has been weak. I hadn’t though of the self-proclaimed master of this castle, Rin, as an enemy. But this horrific scene is just inhuman. I still haven’t gotten back my memory, power, or self-awareness as a Master. But I know this much. This is something I can’t forgive. Even if it’s Rin I’m facing, I’ll have to fight her head-on.

Caster :: I know you're furious, Master. This horrible scene... It's the work of a demon. Someone possessing so much cruelty that they can't be called human.

Caster :: ...In my case, I don't have the right to condemn this. But... Master, if you were to meet this kind of a fate, I wouldn't be a pretty sight. Indeed, I would wield my versatile array of godly powers against time itself! ...or something. I didn't think that horn woman was this much of an idiot. There's a limit to how much you can ignore reality.

Caster :: The curse of being unable to view humans as human... As her senpai in the yandere category, I'm going to rake her over the coals for this!

Caster's voice takes the tension out of me. …I breath slowly. My determination hasn’t waned, but the strain in my body has been released. Even if I harden my heart with anger and justice, this body remembers that we can’t fight to our satisfaction.

Julius :: Don’t make me repeat the instructions. Nothing will come of standing there. If you want to help those people, search for the source.

…Julius is right. I turn my back to that terrible scene and walk forward. Just as I did in that dark school building.

Leo :: Now…Hakuno. What do you make of that torture chamber? Do you think it’s the “secret of Miss Tohsaka” Kiara said we needed to take down the shield?

> I think the torture chamber is Rin’s secret
[>] No, I think it’s something else

I think the torture chamber isn’t Rin’s secret. It’s true that Rin Tohsaka is a dangerous person, but she wasn’t the kind of person who would do something so evil — My memories are lacking, but I’m sure of this. …probably.

Leo :: Yes, I agree. For it to be Miss Tohsaka’s secret, it would have to be something more amusing. There should be some other secret. First let’s investigate every corner of this floor.
